**COIMBATORE, January 19, 2025** – A 38-year-old man from Coimbatore has fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing ₹28.47 lakh. C. Gokulnath, a resident of Seeranaickenpalayam, reported to the city’s cybercrime police that he was lured into an investment scheme through a Telegram group.

After an initial investment of ₹50,000 yielded apparent profits, Gokulnath invested a further ₹28.47 lakh between December 4, 2024, and January 8, 2025. However, he was unable to withdraw his funds and was subsequently asked to pay ₹14 lakh in tax, at which point he realized he had been defrauded.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The unidentified individual behind the scam remains at large.
