Sat Jan 18 16:48:39 UTC 2025: ## Chhattisgarh Official Accused of Leaking Exam Papers to Nephews
**Raipur, January 19, 2025** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged a former chairman of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC), Taman Singh Sonwani, with leaking examination papers to his nephews to ensure their selection. The chargesheet, filed in a Raipur court on January 16th, alleges Sonwani manipulated the 2021 CGPSC examination by changing the term “relative” to “family” in the notification, allowing him to remain involved in the process.
Sonwani and six others, including his nephews Nitesh and Sahil (who were selected as Deputy Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police, respectively), are accused of manipulating the selection process. The CBI alleges Sonwani provided the exam papers to his nephews, who then allegedly shared them with other candidates for money, funneled through a registered society headed by Sonwani’s wife. The CBI’s chargesheet highlights a CGPSC rule requiring officials to recuse themselves from examinations if a relative is participating. Sonwani’s lawyer, Faisal Rizvi, contends the allegations are based on assumptions, citing inconsistencies in the prosecution’s arguments. All accused are currently in judicial custody.
