**London, England** – Arsenal’s hopes of closing the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool suffered a significant setback on Saturday after they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

Ollie Watkins, the Aston Villa striker who famously scored the winner in last season’s upset victory over Arsenal, once again proved a nemesis, scoring the equalizer in a dramatic comeback. Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz had given Arsenal a comfortable lead, with Leandro Trossard assisting both goals. However, Villa rallied in the second half. Youri Tielemans pulled one back with a header before Watkins volleyed home a sublime cross from Matty Cash to level the score.

Arsenal believed they had snatched a late winner when a Mikel Merino shot deflected in off Havertz’s arm, but the goal was correctly ruled out for handball. Despite late pressure and a near miss, the Gunners were unable to find a winner, leaving them four points behind Liverpool, having played one game more.
