**Davos, Switzerland** – The Swiss town of Davos has been transformed into a high-security zone as it prepares to host the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), running from January 20th to 24th. Over 5,000 Swiss Army personnel, equipped with drones and AI-powered tools, have been deployed alongside police and civilian security forces to protect the high-profile event, which will bring together approximately 3,000 leaders from over 130 countries. Security measures include snipers, drone jammers, and increased patrols. The army’s deployment began on January 14th and will continue until January 30th.
This year’s WEF, themed “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age,” will feature a diverse range of attendees, including approximately 60 heads of state and government. Notable attendees confirmed include US President-elect Donald Trump (via video link), German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and numerous other world leaders, CEOs, and representatives from civil society and international organizations such as the IMF, WTO, and WHO. India will send a large delegation, including five union ministers and three chief ministers, to showcase its economic growth and digital transformation initiatives.
The WEF, founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, has evolved from a forum focused on European management practices to a global platform addressing critical economic and social issues. This year’s meeting will focus on relaunching global growth, harnessing new technologies, and strengthening social and economic resilience. The Indian delegation will highlight Prime Minister Modi’s economic policies, particularly the country’s digital transformation efforts. While multiple Indian states previously competed for individual pavilions, this year will feature only two consolidated Indian pavilions, one for the central government and one representing six states.
