**Kochi:** The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has responded to criticism over Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Samson’s absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy training camp without explanation has drawn fire, with reports suggesting that the KCA’s decision not to include him in the Vijay Hazare team directly contributed to his omission from the national team.

KCA President Jayesh George stated that Samson informed the association of his unavailability via a single-line email, offering no reason for his absence. He further added that Samson’s subsequent email expressing his desire to be included in the team after the camp was insufficient. George criticized Samson’s lack of communication, especially from a senior player.

This explanation comes after strong criticism from prominent figures like Shashi Tharoor, who accused the KCA of prioritizing ego over merit in excluding Samson. Tharoor alleged that Samson’s absence from the camp was a result of the KCA’s actions.

The BCCI selectors are also reportedly unhappy with Samson’s lack of a valid reason for missing the training camp. The BCCI emphasizes the importance of senior players’ commitment to domestic cricket. Samson’s non-selection highlights the growing pressure on senior players to show greater dedication to domestic tournaments.
