**Mumbai, January 17, 2025** – A new development emerged in the investigation into the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Police initially detained a man, Waris Ali, for questioning in connection with the incident. However, after a 24-hour interrogation at the Bandra police station, he was released; police confirmed he is not connected to the attack.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Saif Ali Khan’s apartment in the Bandra West area of Mumbai. An intruder entered the apartment, initially encountering Saif’s young son Jahangir’s room. The housekeeper’s screams alerted Saif, who was then attacked by the assailant. The intruder, wielding a knife, inflicted six wounds on Saif Ali Khan before fleeing.
Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent surgery. Doctors reported two wounds to his left hand, one to the right side of his neck, and the removal of a 2.5-inch knife fragment embedded in his spine causing spinal fluid leakage. He has undergone plastic surgery for the wounds and is now recovering in a hospital room after being shifted from the ICU. Doctors expect him to be discharged in two to three days.
Police have registered a case against the assailant under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code, suspecting robbery as the motive. Dedicated police teams are actively pursuing the actual perpetrator.
