Sat Jan 18 17:14:38 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Imposes Strict New Code of Conduct on Indian Cricketers
**Mumbai, January 18:** Following India’s 1-3 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a stringent new code of conduct for players and staff. While the BCCI hasn’t officially released the ten-point guideline document, details have emerged, prompting a reaction from Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
During a press conference announcing the Champions Trophy squad and upcoming ODI series against England, Sharma reacted sharply to questions about the new rules, questioning the source of the information and urging reporters to wait for official confirmation from the BCCI. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the issue, stating that all teams have rules and that these guidelines aim to improve team unity and cohesion, not to punish players.
The leaked guidelines include mandatory participation in domestic cricket, restrictions on family travel during tours (requiring permission from the head coach and selection committee chairman), limits on luggage allowance, and regulations on sending personal belongings to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Furthermore, the new rules prohibit personal staff on tours without prior BCCI approval, mandate attendance at all practice sessions, and restrict advertising and personal shoots during series. Players will also be required to participate in all official BCCI shoots and events.
Specific stipulations regarding family travel on foreign tours include a two-week allowance for wives and children under 18, with the BCCI covering accommodation costs only, and strict deadlines for family visits needing approval from the coach and captain. The guidelines also mandate that players remain with the team until the end of a tour, regardless of the series’ conclusion.
Violation of any guideline may result in disciplinary action, including potential bans from tournaments, series, and even the Indian Premier League (IPL), along with contract termination. The BCCI expects strict adherence to these new rules, emphasizing their importance in maintaining team unity and player performance.
