Sat Jan 18 16:29:04 UTC 2025: ## Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Transferred Amidst Funding Dispute

**Mangaluru, January 19, 2025** – C.L. Anand, the Commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), was transferred on Saturday amidst a growing conflict with city councillors over the release of area development funds. He has been replaced by Ravichandra Naik, Special Land Acquisition Officer, Upper Tunga Project, Shivamogga. Anand’s transfer to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms is effective immediately.

The dispute arose from the councillors’ demand for ₹1 crore in funding for each of them, a promise made by former Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur. While Anand maintained that funds would be released based on project priority and availability, councillors, irrespective of party affiliation, expressed their dissatisfaction, escalating the situation during a January 4th council meeting. One councillor, Abdul Rauf, even accused Anand of irregularities, a claim that went unchallenged by other councillors. Anand denied these allegations and offered to cooperate with any inquiry. With the council’s five-year term ending next month, the timing of the transfer is noteworthy.
