**Bengaluru, January 18, 2025** – The Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) newly launched Nandini whey protein-enriched idli and dosa batter has become an instant hit, leading to widespread shortages across Bengaluru. Launched on December 25th by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the batter, available in 450g (₹40) and 900g (₹80) packs, is currently only sold in Bengaluru, with supply concentrated in the south and west.
While KMF officials report strong positive customer feedback and plan to increase production from the current 5,000 kg per day, many consumers are expressing frustration over its unavailability. Several residents reported being unable to find the batter at local Nandini parlors, citing insufficient supply.
“I enquired at two Nandini parlors near my house, but neither had the batter. They said there is no supply,” said Vijaya Kumari, a Yelahanka resident. Similar experiences were echoed by other consumers.
KMF Chairman Bheema Naik acknowledged the high demand, stating that they anticipated a slower uptake but were surprised by the rapid popularity. The federation plans to expand distribution to other districts in Karnataka based on the Bengaluru response. The batter aims to compete with existing private brands, and initial customer reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising its taste and texture. The KMF anticipates addressing the supply issues as production scales up.
