**New Delhi** – The Indian cricket team has raised objections to some provisions in a new 10-point disciplinary guideline document reportedly prepared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the behest of head coach Gautam Gambhir. Captain Rohit Sharma is scheduled to discuss these concerns with BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia.
While the BCCI hasn’t officially announced the guidelines, media reports detail their contents. A key point of contention, according to PTI, is the reinstatement of a rule limiting family visits to 14 days during long tours. The guidelines also reportedly require coach Gambhir’s approval for any changes.
Rohit Sharma’s comments, overheard near selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar before a press conference, hinted at the team’s dissatisfaction. He was heard saying he needed to speak with the secretary “to discuss family matters.” When directly questioned about the guidelines, Sharma responded by questioning the source of the information and requesting an official announcement from the BCCI.
Agarkar confirmed the existence of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) but offered a measured response to criticism regarding its timing – just six months after the team’s T20 World Cup victory. He linked the new guidelines to a post-Australia tour review meeting and emphasized the need for team rules, stating that it was “not a school or a punishment.” He added that many of the rules were already in practice, and the new SOP was simply a formalization of existing practices.
The controversy overshadows the selection of the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
