MUMBAI, INDIA – January 19, 2025 – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” opened to a strong response at the box office, earning ₹2.35 crore (approximately $285,000 USD) on its first day of release. This marks the highest opening day collection for Ranaut post-COVID-19, surpassing her previous films “Tejas” (₹1.25 crore), “Dhaakad” (₹1.2 crore), and “Thalaivii” (₹1.46 crore). Only her pre-pandemic release, “Panga,” achieved a higher opening day gross (₹2.70 crore).
The film, a political drama based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Ranaut portraying the titular role, received positive reviews. Industry analysts predict further strong weekend collections.
