Thu Jan 16 21:28:47 UTC 2025: ## Experienced Domestic Coach Sitanshu Kotak Appointed India’s New Batting Coach

**New Delhi, January 16** – Following a string of disappointing batting performances by the Indian cricket team against New Zealand and Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Saurashtra batsman Sitanshu Kotak as the new batting coach. The move, confirmed by sources within India Today, aims to address the team’s technical deficiencies that led to six losses in eight matches across the two series.

Kotak, a highly respected figure in Indian cricket, boasts an extensive coaching resume. His experience includes serving as head batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he worked with numerous Indian players, including Rishabh Pant during his rehabilitation. He has also coached both India A and the national team on several occasions, filling in for prominent figures like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. His impressive credentials are further highlighted by his successful tenure as Saurashtra’s coach, culminating in their 2020 Ranji Trophy victory.

Kotak’s playing career for Saurashtra was equally impressive. The left-handed batsman amassed 8061 runs in 130 first-class matches, averaging 41.76, along with 70 wickets. After retiring in 2013, he earned Level 1 and 2 coaching certifications from the BCCI and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The BCCI hopes Kotak’s appointment will significantly improve India’s batting performance before the upcoming T20I series. His expertise is expected to resolve the technical flaws that were heavily exploited by the Australian bowling attack in the recent series. Kotak is anticipated to join the team shortly.
