**New Delhi, January 16, 2025** – Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam arrived in India on Thursday, commencing a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the technology sector. During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, President Shanmugaratnam highlighted Singapore’s commitment to expanding its collaboration with India in several key areas.

Key announcements included exploring the creation of a data corridor between India’s GIFT City and Singapore to facilitate secure data exchange between financial institutions. Singapore is also keen to participate in the development of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, including the manufacturing of semiconductors and the creation of next-generation technological solutions. President Shanmugaratnam emphasized Singapore’s long-standing investment in India, noting that it remains the largest investor for many years.

The visit also marks the commencement of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. A joint logo was launched to commemorate this milestone. Discussions also touched upon collaboration in renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and ammonia, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable development. President Shanmugaratnam specifically highlighted the potential of India’s eastern states, such as Odisha and Assam, for growth in areas like logistics, connectivity, and petrochemicals. The visit underscores the deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore, announced last September.
