Thu Jan 16 20:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Capital One Experiences Widespread Tech Outage Affecting Customer Accounts

**NEW YORK –** Capital One customers experienced significant disruptions Thursday morning due to a technical issue impacting account access, deposits, and payment processing. The outage, which began around 6 a.m. ET, affected consumer, small business, and commercial banking services, according to the bank.

Capital One attributed the problem to a third-party vendor issue, initially acknowledging the outage on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to numerous customer complaints. Downdetector.com recorded approximately 2,000 reports of service disruptions at the height of the outage, with reports leveling off around 9 a.m. ET. The bank has not yet provided a timeline for full service restoration.

The outage comes just a day after Citibank experienced its own technical difficulties, impacting mobile access and fraud alerts. While Citibank’s mobile access issues appear resolved, the fraud alert problem remains under investigation.

This incident follows a recent lawsuit filed against Capital One by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) alleging misleading practices regarding savings accounts. Capital One has denied these allegations. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
