**NEW DELHI** – Hindenburg Research, the US-based short-selling firm known for its high-profile attacks on companies including the Adani Group, is disbanding, founder Nate Anderson announced on the firm’s website. Anderson stated the decision was planned, coinciding with the completion of their current projects, and denied any external pressure or personal issues influenced the closure.
Hindenburg’s most notable campaign targeted the Adani Group in 2022 and again in 2024, alleging various financial improprieties. The Adani Group vehemently denied the accusations, receiving a clean chit from the Indian Supreme Court. Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, later described the attacks as a “dual assault” targeting both the company’s financial stability and its political standing.
The firm also previously targeted the head of India’s markets regulator, Madhavi Puri Buch, and her husband, actions described as character assassination. Hindenburg’s closure comes just days before a significant political transition, although Anderson insists the timing is coincidental. The impact of Hindenburg’s disbanding on future short-selling activity remains to be seen.
