**Visakhapatnam, India – January 16, 2025** – The Coastal Conservation Foundation (CCF) and the East Coast Conservation Team (ECCT) announced a week-long “Intertidal Bioblitz” to document the biodiversity of India’s intertidal zones. From January 26th to February 4th, volunteers across Mumbai, Goa, Visakhapatnam, and other coastal locations will participate in this citizen science initiative.
The Bioblitz will focus on the unique flora and fauna found in the intertidal zones – the areas between high and low tide lines. Participants, including scientists, educators, and nature enthusiasts, will collect data using the iNaturalist platform, a global citizen science tool. Data collected will contribute to scientific research and inform conservation policies.
“No prior scientific experience is needed,” emphasized Sri Chakra Pranav of ECCT. “All you need is curiosity and a willingness to explore.” The organizers will provide training, identification guides, and online sessions to support participants. Schools and colleges are also encouraged to participate. Participants will receive digital certificates for their contributions.
The event will include guided field explorations, workshops on species identification and data recording, and interactive sessions on the importance of intertidal ecosystems.
