**New Delhi, January 16, 2025** – A cold wave swept across northern India, bringing rain, dense fog, and plummeting temperatures to several major cities. Delhi woke to a chilly 10° Celsius this morning, with light rain and cloudy skies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a further drop to 8° Celsius tomorrow, along with warnings of dense fog. Air quality remains critically poor, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 380.

The cold snap is not limited to Delhi. Chandigarh is experiencing thick fog, with a minimum temperature of 8° Celsius expected today. Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall, with temperatures plummeting to -12° Celsius. Agra and Ayodhya are also shrouded in fog, experiencing minimum temperatures of 10° Celsius and 8° Celsius respectively, with dense fog warnings issued for both cities.

The IMD has issued dense to very dense fog warnings for Delhi, Agra, and Ayodhya. The poor air quality, currently in the “very poor” category across the region, is further exacerbated by the cold and fog. The situation warrants caution for residents, especially vulnerable populations.
