**New Delhi** – The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has publicly urged Virat Kohli to participate in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, starting January 23rd. While Kohli’s name is on the provisional squad list, his availability remains unconfirmed, sparking debate within the cricketing community.

DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma issued a pointed statement, suggesting Kohli emulate Mumbai’s India players who prioritize Ranji Trophy appearances. “Virat should take inspiration from Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket whenever he is available,” Sharma said, highlighting a perceived lack of similar commitment from Delhi’s top players. This call comes amidst the BCCI’s recent emphasis on the importance of Ranji Trophy participation for Test players.

Adding to the pressure, Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the Saurashtra match. Other prominent players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also committed to playing.

DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, while supportive of Kohli’s participation, acknowledged the complexities involved, citing the intense schedules and fitness demands on top cricketers. “He should [play], but there are too many moving parts,” Jaitley said, referencing the role of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in player management and workload considerations.
