Wed Jan 15 15:46:09 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka to Meet with Union Government Over Sharavathi Project Land Denotification
**New Delhi, January 15, 2025** – Senior Karnataka government officials will meet with representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in Delhi on Thursday to resolve a dispute over the denotification of forest land. The land, totaling 9,129 acres, was originally denotified to benefit families displaced by the Sharavathi Hydroelectric Project.
The meeting follows a Supreme Court order instructing both the state and central governments to amicably resolve the issue through secretary-level talks. The Karnataka High Court previously overturned the denotification, citing a lack of Union government approval.
According to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Ramesh Hegde, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Anjum Parvez, Principal Secretary P.C. Ray, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Brijesh Kumar Dixit will represent Karnataka. They will meet with Inspector General of Forests Ramesh Pandey from the MoEFCC.
The meeting was arranged following efforts by Karnataka School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, who is also in charge of Shivamogga district, where the project is located. Officials representing Shivamogga will also participate in the Delhi meeting. The outcome of the discussions could determine the future of the land and its use.
