**Bidar, Karnataka:** A brazen daylight robbery in Bidar, Karnataka, left one security guard dead and another critically injured on Thursday. Two masked robbers, riding motorcycles, ambushed an ATM cash vehicle outside the State Bank of India’s main branch, making off with Rs 93 lakh (approximately $112,000 USD).
The robbers, described as wearing black jackets and hats and carrying backpacks, first threw chili powder at the guards before opening fire. Giri Venkatesh, one of the guards employed by CMS Agency, died at the scene from gunshot wounds. His colleague, Shivakumar, is fighting for his life at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) with critical injuries. Police reported that five rounds were fired during the attack.
The incident occurred during a routine ATM cash refill at Shivaji Chowk, a busy area in the city center. Despite attempts by local residents to stop the robbers by throwing stones, the perpetrators escaped with the cash box.
Bidar Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Gunti is overseeing the investigation, which is utilizing CCTV footage obtained from the scene. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the culprits. The incident has caused significant panic within the community. Further details are awaited.
