Thu Jan 16 16:03:06 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Lifts Strictest Pollution Curbs After Rain Improves Air Quality
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Authorities in Delhi have lifted the strictest pollution control measures after a recent rainfall significantly improved air quality in the region. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced the revocation of GRAP-4, a set of stringent rules implemented when the Air Quality Index (AQI) surpasses 400.
GRAP-4, which included a ban on construction, restricted entry of non-essential trucks, and mandated hybrid school classes (excluding Classes 10 and 12), was deemed overly disruptive by the CAQM. While GRAP-3 restrictions remain in place, the decision to lift GRAP-4 came after Delhi’s AQI improved to 302 today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Yesterday’s AQI reached 386, prompting the activation of both GRAP-3 and GRAP-4.
The CAQM cited improved meteorological conditions and air quality forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) as reasons for the decision. However, the agency expects the AQI to remain in the “Very Poor” category in the coming days. The lifting of GRAP-4 represents a significant easing of restrictions for businesses and residents in the National Capital Region, although some pollution control measures will remain in effect.
