Thu Jan 16 15:02:21 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Tourism Gets Boost with New Adventure Sports and Heritage Projects
**Mysuru, Karnataka, January 16, 2025** – The Mysuru district administration is undertaking a significant push to bolster tourism in the region, focusing on both adventure activities and the preservation of its rich heritage. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy announced several initiatives at a meeting of the Mysuru Tourism Development Committee.
Key developments include plans to enhance Varuna Lake as a tourist destination by adding adventure sports such as zip lines, sky cycles, and joint swings to its existing offerings. Tenders have been invited for the lake’s development, and similar upgrades are planned for other lakes in the area, incorporating boating facilities.
The administration is also prioritizing the development of homestays, specifying a maximum of five rooms to maintain a rural atmosphere and distinct visitor experience. The Mysore City Corporation will issue necessary clearances for properties meeting these criteria.
A major project under the Swadesh Darshan scheme aims to create an “Eco Experience Zone” linking the Mysuru Zoo, Karanji Lake, and the Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH). A detailed project report is complete, and tenders have been called. This initiative also includes the “Tonga Ride Heritage Experience Zone,” which will revitalize the traditional horse-drawn carriage rides, providing tourists with historical information during tours of the city’s heritage sites.
Furthermore, the unused old deputy commissioner’s office, a heritage building, is slated for conversion into a museum showcasing the contributions of Mysuru Maharajas, Diwans, and administrative reforms. A detailed project report for this museum is also ready.
Joint Director of Tourism M.K. Savita emphasized the non-commercial nature of homestays, distinguishing them from hotels. She also highlighted the installation of signages and selfie points at various tourist destinations across the district, a project undertaken by the Union government. The integration of these projects is expected to significantly boost tourism in Mysuru, leveraging the already popular Mysuru Zoo as a central attraction.
