**Malappuram, Kerala, January 16, 2025** – The Malappuram municipality launched a new solid waste management project on Tuesday, funded in part by the World Bank. The initiative, dubbed the “Kerala State Waste Management Project,” aims to address the growing problem of solid waste disposal stemming from rapid urbanization.
MP E.T. Mohammed Basheer, who inaugurated the project, urged other municipalities across Kerala to adopt advanced waste management technologies. He highlighted the significant social and environmental consequences of inadequate waste management and praised Malappuram for its proactive approach. He lauded the municipality for setting an example for others to follow.
MLA P. Ubaidullah presided over the event, which also included speeches from local officials. The project underscores a growing need for improved waste management infrastructure in rapidly developing urban areas across India.
