Thu Jan 16 05:19:57 UTC 2025: ## Kochi Canals to Get Pollution Mapping App
**KOCHI, January 16, 2025** – A new mobile application will be used to map pollution sources in Kochi’s heavily polluted Perandoor and Edappally canals, the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) announced today. The initiative, part of a feasibility study by the CSIR-NEERI, aims to curb the rampant discharge of untreated wastewater into these waterways.
The study was commissioned by the Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) following a 2021 *The Hindu* report highlighting high faecal contamination in the canals. The PCB will use the “Enviclean” app to pinpoint pollution sources, including households and commercial establishments, leveraging its ability to geotag locations. This data will inform the creation of a comprehensive pollution map and the development of a scientific solution to address the pollution problem. The app’s features allow project assistants to identify pollution sources and discharge points without physically visiting each location.
