**ATKINSON, NE –** Jack Hoffman, the Nebraska boy who captured hearts nationwide with his inspiring touchdown run at a Nebraska Husker spring game in 2013, has passed away after a long battle with brain cancer. He was 18.
Hoffman’s death was announced by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atkinson. He had been diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer at the age of five in 2011 and, despite periods of remission, faced a recurrence of the disease in 2014 and again recently. His mother, Brianna, shared updates on his condition throughout his illness, expressing gratitude for moments of joy amidst the challenges. Over the Christmas holiday, she reported that while Jack was still experiencing symptoms, they were able to celebrate together at home.
Hoffman’s 2013 touchdown run, a moment of pure joy and resilience, earned him the 2013 ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports. The event brought national attention to Team Jack, a non-profit foundation established by his family to fund pediatric brain cancer research. Team Jack has raised millions of dollars in its efforts.
Visitation for Jack will be held Friday, January 17th, from 5-8 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atkinson. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 18th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Atkinson Community Center. The community mourns the loss of this courageous young man who touched countless lives.
