Bengaluru, January 16, 2025 – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)’s new online e-khata system, launched on October 1st, has issued 1.25 lakh final e-khatas to property owners in just over 100 days. The system, aimed at digitizing property records and improving transparency, has also seen over 12 lakh draft khatas downloaded from the designated website, http://www.bbmpeAasthi.karnataka.gov.in. A separate website, https://bbmp.karnataka.gov.in/newkhata, has been launched for properties lacking existing manual khatas, targeting an estimated 5 lakh properties.
The BBMP is currently issuing 3,000-4,000 e-khatas daily and plans to contact property owners via text message to encourage completion of the process. However, despite the overall success, complaints persist about the rejection of applications, particularly due to name mismatches between Aadhaar and property documents. While the BBMP has disabled blanket rejection options, several property owners, like Bhavana P (name changed), report their applications being rejected despite providing all necessary documents. The BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue), Munish Moudgil, acknowledged these issues and stated the civic body will assist those affected in rectifying problems. The Hindu has received at least four similar grievances. The system’s success is undeniable, yet the persistent rejection issues highlight the need for further improvements to ensure smooth and efficient implementation.
