Thu Jan 16 09:23:44 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Re-imposes Strict Pollution Curbs Amidst Dense Fog and Worsening Air Quality

**New Delhi, [Date]** – Delhi and its surrounding areas are once again under stricter pollution control measures as dense fog and plummeting temperatures have caused a sharp deterioration in air quality. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), citing a rapidly worsening Air Quality Index (AQI), has re-imposed both GRAP Stage 3 and Stage 4 restrictions.

The AQI, which stood at 275 on Tuesday, soared to 386 on Wednesday due to the fog and low temperatures limiting the dispersion of pollutants. The CAQM noted that the AQI reached 396 by 6 pm and was expected to exceed 400. This triggered the immediate reinstatement of all measures under GRAP Stages 3 and 4, in accordance with Supreme Court directives. These measures, in addition to already active Stages 1 and 2 restrictions, aim to prevent further deterioration of the air quality.

The poor visibility caused by the dense fog resulted in significant travel disruptions. Six flights were diverted from Indira Gandhi International Airport, over 300 flights were delayed, and departures were temporarily suspended. Train delays and slowed road traffic were also reported across the region. The drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures further exacerbated the situation.

The CAQM’s decision to reintroduce the stricter curbs underscores the severity of the air pollution crisis facing the National Capital Region.
