Wed Jan 15 18:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Reimposes Strict Pollution Curbs Amidst Dense Fog and Worsening Air Quality
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Delhi and its surrounding areas are back under the strictest pollution control measures as dense fog and plummeting temperatures have caused a sharp deterioration in air quality. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), citing a rapidly worsening Air Quality Index (AQI), has reimposed both GRAP-3 and GRAP-4 restrictions.
The AQI, which stood at 275 on Tuesday, soared to 386 on Wednesday, driven by low temperatures and extremely low wind dispersion, according to the CAQM. The agency noted the AQI reached 396 by 6 pm and predicted it would surpass 400. This prompted the immediate reinstatement of all measures under Stages III and IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), in accordance with Supreme Court directives.
The resurgence of the stringent curbs follows just a day after GRAP-3 restrictions were lifted and a longer period since GRAP-4 measures were last implemented on December 24th. These measures are designed to mitigate pollution levels and prevent further deterioration.
The poor air quality and dense fog have already impacted transport. Six flights were diverted, over 300 delayed, and departures briefly halted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Train delays and slower road traffic were also reported.
The CAQM’s action underlines the severity of the situation and highlights the ongoing struggle to manage air pollution in the national capital region.
