Thu Jan 16 08:57:37 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Braces for More Fog and Light Rain After Improved Air Quality
**NEW DELHI –** Delhi experienced a reprieve from its severe air pollution Thursday morning, thanks to mild rainfall that improved the air quality index (AQI) to “very poor.” However, dense fog significantly impacted transportation, causing delays to 29 trains and numerous flights.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Thursday, predicting more light rain showers and a continuation of cold weather conditions throughout the day. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 10 degrees Celsius, and the maximum around 17 degrees Celsius. Similar conditions are anticipated on Friday morning.
Despite the cold snap, Delhi schools reopened Thursday, but with classes shifting to a hybrid model for students up to class 9 and 11, per a Delhi government order. Parents are advised to check with their schools for specific arrangements.
While the rainfall improved air quality, AQI levels remained high, reaching 431 in Rohini and exceeding 300 in several other areas. The IMD warned residents to exercise caution while driving in the fog and use fog lights. Several airlines issued advisories, urging passengers to allow extra time for travel and check flight statuses due to potential delays. The situation was particularly challenging at Delhi Airport, where delays and even flight diversions were reported.
The IMD forecast predicts dense fog to persist for at least another one to two days. They also warned of potential shallow fog during the evenings and nights. The long-term outlook includes potential air quality issues, prompting the authorities to consider the implementation of further measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
