Thu Jan 16 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Biden’s Presidency Ends with Historically Low Approval Ratings

**Washington, D.C.** – President Joe Biden’s presidency concludes with the lowest approval ratings of his term, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Just 36% of Americans approve of his handling of the presidency, mirroring his previous low and significantly below the marks achieved by recent predecessors. His favorability rating stands at a mere 33%, only slightly above his all-time low.

The poll reveals a widespread perception that Biden’s four years in office were largely unsuccessful. A considerable 61% of Americans view his presidency as a failure, compared to 38% who see it as a success. This contrasts sharply with the overwhelmingly positive assessments of Bill Clinton’s and Barack Obama’s presidencies.

Biden’s low approval extends across various policy areas. While his strongest areas of performance still garnered net-negative results, approval ratings for his handling of the economy, immigration, and foreign affairs all fell below 35%. Even his handling of key Democratic priorities such as protecting democracy, environmental policy, and healthcare received less than half of the public’s approval.

First Lady Jill Biden’s favorability rating remains largely neutral, while Vice President Kamala Harris, though showing a slight improvement since last year, still holds an underwater approval rating.

The poll suggests that the persistent negativity surrounding the state of the country and its economy significantly hampered Biden’s presidency. While there was a brief, initial surge in positive economic sentiment, rising prices quickly reversed this trend.

A partisan divide colors perceptions of Biden’s presidency. While Democrats largely approve of his performance (71%), independents (31%) and Republicans (8%) offer far less support.

The poll, conducted January 9-12 among 1,205 adults, has a margin of error of ±3.2 percentage points.
