**Bengaluru, January 16, 2025** – A 42-year-old insurance agent, Praveen Singh, has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly blackmailing a 24-year-old woman, who subsequently died by self-immolation. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 12th, at a hotel near the Kundalahalli metro station.
According to police, Singh, who was married, had an affair with the victim, an employee of a prominent IT firm. He allegedly blackmailed her with private videos after she ended the relationship, threatening to share them with her family. He booked a hotel room where the pair met to discuss the matter. A heated argument ensued, after which the victim set herself on fire. She later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.
Police recovered a pen drive from Singh’s possession and have sent it for forensic analysis. Singh has been charged with blackmail and abetment to suicide. The HAL police are conducting a thorough investigation.
