Wed Jan 15 19:52:24 UTC 2025: ## Transgender Woman Challenges Delhi CM in Assembly Polls
**New Delhi, January 16, 2025** – Rajan Singh, a 27-year-old transwoman, has thrown her hat into the ring for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, challenging Chief Minister Atishi in her Kalkaji constituency. Singh, a candidate for the Aam Janata Party (formed October 2024), alleges the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has neglected the transgender community.
Singh claims that despite AAP’s promises of financial aid to other groups, no such support has been extended to the transgender population. She criticized the party’s failure to address key issues like education, employment, and healthcare access for transgender individuals.
“In the past 10 years, no work has been done for the transgender community in Delhi,” Singh stated, highlighting the need for reservations in education and employment, as well as dedicated hospital wards and public toilets.
Singh’s candidacy follows a previous independent run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where she garnered over 300 votes. While acknowledging the low vote count, she believes her participation has increased visibility for the transgender community’s political concerns. According to Election Commission data, there are 1,261 registered ‘third gender’ voters in Delhi. Singh’s campaign aims to demonstrate that the transgender vote is a force to be reckoned with.
