Thu Jan 16 09:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Brahmaji Reveals Shekhar Kammula’s Family Connection Behind ‘Godavari’ Offer to Raja Gautam
**Hyderabad, [Date]:** Veteran Telugu actor Brahmanandam revealed an interesting anecdote about his son Raja Gautam and director Shekhar Kammula during the teaser launch of their film “Brahma Anandam.” Brahmanandam disclosed that Kammula, who is reportedly his wife’s maternal cousin, initially approached Raja Gautam for the lead role in his critically acclaimed film, “Godavari.”
However, Gautam rejected the offer, deeming the script – a predominantly female-centric story – unsuitable. The role subsequently went to actor Sumeet, resulting in a box office success and solidifying “Godavari’s” cult status.
Brahmanandam’s revelation sheds light on the often-unseen dynamics within the Telugu film industry. While it’s common for projects to change hands between actors, this instance highlights a familial connection influencing casting decisions. Gautam, despite missing out on a potentially career-defining role, now shares screen space with his father in “Brahma Anandam.”
Interestingly, the news also resurfaced information from the producer of Godavari, who attributed its box-office failure in 2006 to excessive shooting days and a weak climax centered around a treasure hunt. This stands in contrast to the film’s continued critical acclaim and enduring popularity among viewers. The producer, who had previously achieved a major hit in 1998 with “Tholi Prema”, reportedly shut down his banner following the underperformance of “Godavari” and another film, “Raraju”.
