**Prayagraj, India –** The highly anticipated Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is nearing its peak, with the schedule for the sacred “Amrit Snan” (holy dip) finalized. Millions of pilgrims are expected to participate in this massive religious gathering, one of the largest in the world.
The administration released the precise timings and order for the 13 Akharas (religious ascetic orders) to perform the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti, January 14th. The sequence adheres to ancient traditions. The Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara will be the first to participate, beginning their ritual at 6:15 AM. Subsequent Akharas will follow a pre-determined schedule, with allocated time slots for their respective dips. The schedule covers all three categories of Akharas: Sanyasi, Bairagi and Udasin. The last Akhara, Shri Panchayati Nirmal Akhara, will perform the Amrit Snan last.
The Mahakumbh Mela will continue until February 26th, 2025, with additional key “Shahi Snans” (royal dips) scheduled for January 29th, February 3rd, and February 12th, culminating in Maha Shivaratri celebrations on February 26th. The event is a Poorna Kumbh, signifying its full, twelve-year cycle.
