Mon Jan 13 15:41:12 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Panchayat Elections May Use Ballot Papers, Says SEC

**Belagavi, January 13, 2025** – The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) is considering using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat elections, scheduled for April or May, State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi announced Monday.

The decision follows years of objections from various political parties regarding the use of EVMs. Sangreshi stated the SEC aims to implement “efficient and transparent systems” to ensure public trust in the electoral process. The use of ballot papers will be considered after internal consultations.

The elections have been delayed due to constituency re-delimitation. The SEC will announce the election dates once the state government finalizes the reservation roster for various constituencies.

Regarding the proposed “One Nation, One Election” policy, Sangreshi emphasized the need for widespread democratic discussion at all levels, including village-level consultations, before any decision is made. He stressed that it is not a matter to be decided by a select few.
