NEW DELHI (January 14, 2025) – Authorities in Delhi have seized ₹21.89 crore worth of liquor, cash, and other prohibited items since the implementation of the model code of conduct (MCC) ahead of upcoming elections, according to the office of Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. Alice Vaz.
The majority of the seizures, ₹6.83 crore, came from east Delhi, followed by south Delhi with ₹6.81 crore. Cash seizures accounted for ₹9.8 crore of the total, with an additional ₹6.1 crore in precious metals, ₹5.05 crore in drugs, and ₹47 lakh in liquor also confiscated.
CEO Vaz stated that election duty police are undergoing training, and crucial data related to nominations and enforcement is under daily review. Final police deployment and security arrangements for the election are pending. A senior police officer revealed that over 60 companies of paramilitary forces and more than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed for Republic Day and election security, focusing on over 3,000 identified ‘sensitive’ and ‘hypersensitive’ polling stations and areas.
