Mon Jan 13 14:08:39 UTC 2025: ## Controversial Former AAP Leader Kapil Mishra to Contest Delhi Elections for BJP

**New Delhi, [Date]** – Kapil Mishra, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA known for his controversial statements and accusations, will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Karawal Nagar. He replaces the sitting MLA, Mohan Singh Bisht, who is contesting from Mustafabad. Voting is scheduled for February 5th, with results announced on February 8th.

Mishra, who previously won the Karawal Nagar seat for AAP in 2015 by a significant margin (nearly 45,000 votes), was later expelled from the party. His political journey has been marked by dramatic shifts and allegations. He served as Delhi’s Water Resources Minister but was sacked in 2017 following accusations of irregularities and a high-profile clash with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Mishra also led a fact-finding committee investigating a water tanker scam and subsequently levelled corruption allegations against the AAP government.

Before his political career, Mishra co-founded Youth for Justice, a group advocating for socio-economic issues, and worked with organizations like Greenpeace and Amnesty International. He gained notoriety for his book, “It’s Common v/s Wealth,” criticizing the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Since joining the BJP in 2019, Mishra has continued to court controversy. He received a 48-hour campaign ban in 2020 for comparing the Delhi elections to an India-Pakistan match. He also faced criticism for his alleged role in inciting violence during the North East Delhi riots in February 2020. He was appointed Vice President of the Delhi BJP in August 2023.

Mishra’s candidacy is expected to generate significant interest given his turbulent past and controversial reputation. His contest against his former party in Karawal Nagar is poised to be a key battleground in the upcoming elections.
