**Bengaluru, India –** The United States will hold a site dedication ceremony for its new consulate in Bengaluru on January 17th, officials announced. The exact location, expected to be either in the Central Business District or Whitefield, will be revealed during the ceremony.

While visa services may initially operate temporarily from the JW Marriott Hotel, the new consulate will significantly improve access to US visa services for residents of Bengaluru and Karnataka, eliminating the need to travel to other states.

This development follows a long-standing request for a Bengaluru consulate, championed by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar last year and confirmed during Prime Minister Modi’s US visit in June 2023. The announcement included plans for a second new US consulate in Ahmedabad, alongside a new Indian mission in Seattle. US Ambassador Eric Garcetti previously stated the Bengaluru consulate would open in January 2025. The US currently maintains its embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
