Mon Jan 13 13:55:35 UTC 2025: ## Former Union Minister Calls for Reservation Policy Review in Karnataka

**Belagavi, Karnataka – January 13, 2025** – A. Narayanaswamy, former Union Minister and BJP leader, has urged for a comprehensive review of India’s reservation policy, advocating for a decadal assessment of its impact. Speaking at a State-level workshop in Dharwad organized by the Karnataka State Madiga Students Federation, Narayanaswamy highlighted the lack of such reviews in the past 75 years.

He emphasized the need to analyze the policy’s effect on various castes, classes, and regions, suggesting that future policy adjustments should be data-driven. The workshop, attended by members of the Madiga community, aimed to gather data for the Nagamohan Das Commission, which is tasked with sub-categorizing Scheduled Castes.

Narayanaswamy expressed concern that many within the Madiga community lack understanding of sub-reservation and its potential benefits. He called for the compilation of data on the community’s social, economic, and educational status at the district level, including employment figures within government departments. This data, he said, should be submitted to the Commission to ensure a fair and accurate representation of the community’s needs.

Former MLA Veerabhadrappa Halaharavi echoed these sentiments, urging the submission of empirical data to the Commission and stressing the importance of impartial justice. The event also included the participation of Shadaksharimuni Desikendra Swamiji of the Kodihalli Adijambava Mutt.
