**Shirdi, Maharashtra –** Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared the BJP’s resounding victory in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections as the definitive end of “politics of betrayal and instability,” dating back to a 1978 power play by veteran politician Sharad Pawar. Addressing a state BJP convention on Sunday, Shah asserted that the BJP’s win, securing 132 seats – their highest ever in the state – had buried this political culture “20 feet underground.”
Shah directly linked the BJP’s success to the rejection of what he described as Pawar’s legacy of political maneuvering, referencing the 1978 incident where Pawar, then with the Congress, split the party to become Chief Minister. He further pointed to the recent defection of Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar’s nephew, to the BJP-led government as a symbolic moment in this shift.
The Home Minister also attacked former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, accusing him of betraying the BJP and the ideology of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray after the 2019 elections. He credited the BJP’s victory to a combination of Hindutva ideology and Prime Minister Modi’s development agenda, praising the party workers as the architects of their success.
The BJP, along with its allies Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, secured a massive victory, winning over 230 out of 288 seats, leaving the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance far behind with only 46 seats. Shah stated this victory shattered the hopes of the INDIA alliance, a coalition of opposition parties, and sent a strong message that the era of political instability in Maharashtra is over. He emphasized the establishment of a stable government under Devendra Fadnavis as a testament to the people’s desire for stability.
