Mon Jan 13 04:54:28 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Independent MLA Resigns, Joins Trinamool Congress

**Thiruvananthapuram, January 13, 2025** – P.V. Anvar, an independent MLA representing Nilambur in the Kerala Assembly, submitted his resignation on Monday. Following a meeting with Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in Kolkata, Anvar announced he would coordinate the party’s activities in Kerala. While he stopped short of officially confirming TMC membership, his actions strongly suggest a switch.

Anvar’s departure follows a failed attempt to join the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu after a bitter split with the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala. His resignation has sparked speculation about a potential by-election in Nilambur, though both major political alliances in Kerala seem keen to avoid this.

Anvar’s political career has been marked by frequent shifts in allegiance. Initially a Kerala Students Union (KSU) leader, he later joined the Congress before eventually allying with the LDF, winning two terms as an independent candidate. His relationship with the LDF deteriorated sharply after he publicly criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the State Police, and the CPI(M) leadership, accusing them of corruption, anti-minority bias, and neglecting the concerns of ordinary citizens. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan downplayed the significance of Anvar’s resignation, predicting he would ultimately join the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
