Mon Jan 13 11:25:29 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Election Heats Up: BJP and AAP Trade Accusations of Voter List Manipulation

**NEW DELHI** – The Delhi Assembly elections, slated for February 5th, are intensifying with a war of words erupting between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over allegations of voter list manipulation.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of adding voters from across the country to the New Delhi constituency, using the addresses of BJP MPs and ministers. He cited the example of 33 votes reportedly transferred to BJP candidate Parvesh Verma’s official residence, alleging this constituted corrupt practices. Kejriwal submitted a letter to the Election Commission detailing these accusations.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri dismissed Kejriwal’s claims as “laughable,” suggesting the accusations were insignificant. He countered by accusing the AAP of adding Rohingya refugees to Delhi’s voter list to alter the city’s demographics, citing alleged payments for Aadhaar cards and voter registration. Puri also referenced a video purportedly showing a Rohingya immigrant detailing benefits received from an AAP MLA. Delhi Police recently arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals in a separate operation targeting illegal immigration.

Further fueling the controversy, BJP leader Smriti Irani alleged links between AAP MLAs Mohinder Goyal and Jai Bhagwan and a syndicate providing Aadhaar and voter ID cards to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Irani presented evidence suggesting the MLAs’ signatures were on Aadhaar update forms for 26 such immigrants.

Puri dismissed all AAP allegations as attempts to distract from these issues, urging discretion and stating the Election Commission should investigate. The accusations have created a highly charged atmosphere as the election campaign progresses.
