Mon Jan 13 09:22:34 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Opposition Leader Remains Silent on MLA’s Resignation
**Thiruvananthapuram, January 13, 2025** – Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, has remained noncommittal about the future of P.V. Anvar, the Nilambur MLA who resigned on Monday. While stating that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) will decide Anvar’s fate “at an appropriate time,” Satheesan rejected Anvar’s request to replace him with Malappuram district president V.S. Joy in the upcoming by-election.
Satheesan firmly stated that the Congress party, not individuals, will determine the candidate for the Malappuram seat. He linked Anvar’s resignation to a corruption accusation against Satheesan, which Anvar later apologized for, alleging that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his office orchestrated the false claim. Satheesan accused Vijayan’s political secretary, P. Sasi, of involvement and demanded the Speaker keep Anvar’s accusation in the official records.
The Opposition leader dismissed the accusations against him as “juvenile,” referring to a claim by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) that he received ₹150 crore from IT companies to sabotage the K-Rail project. He further suggested that Anvar was used by CPI(M) leaders to attack Vijayan and that Anvar’s actions exposed growing internal dissent within the ruling party. Satheesan predicted further unrest within the CPI(M) in the near future.
