**Bengaluru, January 12, 2025** – The Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) will hold elections to choose a new president for its Karnataka unit by April, according to Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, the current state president. Kumaraswamy announced the decision following a party meeting on Sunday, stating that the focus should be on strengthening the party and rewarding dedicated workers. He refuted claims of a leadership vacuum, emphasizing his continued commitment to his various roles.

Kumaraswamy criticized the state government for its failure to provide compensation to farmers affected by land acquisition for the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor Project.

Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda dismissed Congress attempts to undermine Kumaraswamy, asserting that the party’s vast network of workers would prevent any such success. Gowda plans a state tour in March to further bolster party support. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to withstand any challenges.
