Mon Jan 13 12:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Millions to Receive Surprise Stimulus Checks by Late January

**Washington, D.C.** – The IRS announced today that up to one million U.S. taxpayers will automatically receive stimulus payments by the end of January. These payments are for the Recovery Rebate Credit, which compensates individuals who did not receive their full Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) in 2021.

The agency discovered, through internal data analysis, that eligible taxpayers who filed their 2021 returns failed to claim this credit. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel stated that to streamline the process, these payments, totaling an estimated $2.4 billion nationwide, will be issued automatically via direct deposit or mail. Affected taxpayers will receive a notification letter prior to receiving their payment.

Eligible individuals do not need to take any action to receive the payment. The maximum payment is $1,400. Those who did not file a 2021 tax return but are eligible can still claim the Recovery Rebate Credit by filing their return by April 15, 2025. Even those with minimal or no income should file to claim the credit.

This news comes on the heels of today’s jobs report, which showed the U.S. economy added a robust 256,000 jobs in December, pushing unemployment down to 4.1%.
