**Mangaluru, January 13, 2025** – The BJP staged a protest in Mangaluru on Monday, demanding the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following the mutilation of three cows in Bengaluru on Saturday. Party leaders accused the state government of failing to protect cows and shielding the accused.
MLC K. Pratap Simha Nayak condemned the incident, calling it a conspiracy to incite unrest during Makar Sankranti. He asserted that the government’s inaction violated the Directive Principles of State Policy and demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation. Fellow MLC N. Ravi Kumar criticized the police’s initial claim that a lone, intoxicated North Indian man was responsible, demanding a thorough investigation and compensation for the cow owners.
Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Satish Kumpala alleged widespread illegal cow slaughter under Siddaramaiah’s rule, while MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta accused the government of attempting to cover up the incident by claiming one accused was mentally ill. Chowta questioned how a mentally ill person could selectively target the cows’ udders and attributed the incident to the Congress party’s alleged appeasement politics. He called for a multi-faceted inquiry to bring all perpetrators to justice.
Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, seer of Udupi Pejawar Mutt, also condemned the act, calling for a fast-track court to ensure swift and severe punishment for those responsible. The BJP’s protest underscores the rising tensions surrounding the issue of cow protection in Karnataka.
