Mon Jan 13 15:37:40 UTC 2025: ## Chamarajanagar District Reels from High Road Accident Toll

**Mysuru, January 13, 2025** – Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka reported a staggering 234 road accidents resulting in 256 deaths last year, Superintendent of Police B.T. Kavita revealed on Monday. This alarming figure was announced during the inauguration of Road Safety Week, a joint initiative by the District Police and Rotary Silk City.

Ms. Kavita highlighted that nationwide, over 1.84 lakh people perished in road accidents in 2024. She attributed the high number of fatalities in Chamarajanagar to driver negligence, including failure to wear seatbelts and helmets, and the use of mobile phones while driving. She urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules to prevent further loss of life. Paradoxically, she noted that road accidents tend to increase after road improvements.

The Superintendent stressed the importance of immediate first aid and hospital transport for accident victims. She also emphasized the rising number of vehicles on the road and the need for increased caution, particularly among students.

Additional Superintendent of Police M.N. Shashidhar advocated for establishing traffic police stations in every taluk to effectively enforce road safety regulations. He condemned reckless driving practices such as wheeling, speeding, and overtaking, citing the tragic loss of both human and animal lives.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Managing Director Ashok Kumar stated that the corporation is actively encouraging its drivers to prioritize safety measures. He expressed hope for the implementation of cashless treatment for road accident victims by March.

Transport Department Inspector Asadulla Baig voiced concern over the escalating accident rate, specifically criticizing the dangerous distraction of mobile phone use among young people.
