**Chennai, Tamil Nadu –** The Tamil Nadu state today celebrated Bhogi, the festival marking the end of the Tamil month of Margali and the eve of Pongal. Across the state, people joyfully disposed of old and unwanted possessions by burning them, a traditional practice symbolizing the discarding of the old and welcoming the new. However, the burning of old items raised concerns about air quality.
