Mon Jan 13 06:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Maha Kumbh 2025: Pilgrims Face 10km Walk to Sacred Site

**Prayagraj, India** – Pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025 will face a significant challenge: a mandatory 10-kilometer walk to reach the main bathing areas. Authorities are implementing a vehicle-free zone around the main bathing sites during peak days to manage the massive crowds expected for the religious festival.

This restriction, in effect from January 11th, will be enforced for one or two days before and after major bathing festivals, including Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti. Vehicles will be stopped at least 10 kilometers from the Sangam confluence, forcing pilgrims to complete the remaining distance on foot. One-way pedestrian routes will be implemented to control the flow of the anticipated huge crowds, potentially increasing walking distances further.

The administration emphasizes that this strict vehicle ban is necessary for crowd control and to prevent potential safety hazards. Past experience has shown that without such measures, managing the sheer volume of people becomes extremely difficult. Authorities anticipate a massive influx of pilgrims, creating a sea of people moving towards the river. Designated entry and exit points will be used, creating a circuitous route of approximately 5-6 kilometers to navigate the mela. To further mitigate risks, barricades will be used to create controlled channels within the crowd, slowing the flow and preventing stampedes.

Detailed parking advisories have been issued directing pilgrims arriving from various directions to designated parking areas located several kilometers from the mela. These parking locations are clearly marked for vehicles arriving from different regions, including Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Rewa-Banda-Chitrakoot, Kanpur-Chitrakoot, Lucknow-Pratapgarh, and Ayodhya-Pratapgarh. Rail passengers will also face similar restrictions, with trains terminating at various stations and shuttle services stopping several kilometers before the mela entrance.

The administration urges pilgrims to plan accordingly, anticipating significant walking distances and potential delays. The measures, while inconvenient, are deemed crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of the millions expected to participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela.
