**Kottayam, Kerala – January 12, 2025** – Two individuals from Bengaluru, Karnataka, have been arrested for allegedly extorting over ₹41.52 lakh from a priest in Kottayam through a honey trap scheme, police announced Saturday.
Neha Fathima, 25, and Sarathi, 29, were apprehended by Vaikom police following an investigation launched after the priest filed a complaint. The extortion, which began in April 2023, involved threatening to release private videos of the priest.
Fathima initially contacted the priest, who worked as a principal at a private institution, under the guise of inquiring about a job vacancy. She subsequently contacted him via video call and later began demanding money to prevent the release of compromising material. The priest ultimately reported the crime after the continuous demands for money persisted.
Both suspects have been remanded to custody by a local court. The investigation is ongoing.
